How Can You Recycle All Of Your Food Waste?
Unlike other systems that you have to sort your food before you can use them and then hope that you can figure out what can go in to the system. The Bokashi system is easy - after each meal, just scrape your food scraps into the airtight 5 gal container along with your Bokashi bran with EMs. Yes, It is hard to believe, but it is true...You simply scrape everything off your plate after a meal - fish, broccoli, potato, yogurt, even that last piece of pizza that was left out all night on the counter top...it all goes in. Then just add enough Bokashi bran to cover the food, tamp it down to remove any air, close the lid tight and you are DONE. Now all you do is repeat this process until the bucket is full. Next you simply close the system and leave it for two weeks. If you plan on continuous composting, we highly recommend purchasing two units, because they will want to be able to work without interruption for two weeks after you fill the first bucket and that will allow you to be on a rotation without interruption. What about the Bokashi Juice - also called The Miracle By-Product? The fermenting (pickling) process is anaerobic, so each time you add waste to the bin, you should compress it down to get rid of any air, (air is the enemy) and replace the lid making sure it is sealed tight. As the organic matter begins to break down, it produces a light brown liquid called Bokashi juice, which is alive with beneficial micro-organisms. This can be drained off and diluted as a plant food, or poured down drains to prevent algae build up and odors in your house drain system. The process does not produce odors, attract vermin or flies, so the container can be safely and conveniently be kept inside the home. Below is an introductory video on the Bokashi composting system:
